Nomads ladies roll along for nationals

Christie Cross.

The 32nd annual Nomads ladies nationals tournament recently saw 72 bowlers from as far as Gauteng battle it out at LVCC. Bowlers from Border, V & V, Johannesburg, the East Rand, Mpumalanga, Jacaranda, Eden and Lowveld converged on Mbombela to enjoy the tournament in true Nomads spirit.

Eight games of 21 ends were played, and the shots scored in a game were the players’ score for the day. The winner of the tournament was the bowler with the highest score in the eight games.

New Nomads bowlers, called “virgins”, had to wear bells around their ankles for the week and had to perform a concert on the Thursday evening as part of the prize-giving.

Raffles were done where a new set of Drakes Prides bowls was up for grabs, along wit a painting done by Shirley Tyerman and liquor hampers that were sponsored by Liquor City Nelspruit.

Wednesday was pink day, and everyone dressed up in pink. Ada Skea from Hazyview won best dressed. Alexis Ireland won the best dressed among the youngsters.

The funds raised during this tournament will be donated to a halfway house for abused women and children in Mbombela.
