Bungalow bowlers to interdistrict tournament

Three members of the Bungalows Bowling Club are included in the team that will represent the province in interdistrict tournaments from March 12 to 16.

Christie Cross (ladies), Darryl Cross (men) and Marlet Ireland (open ladies) also played in the annual President’s fund-raiser day at Lowveld Country Club on February 17.

Each provincial player from the Lowveld had to enter a team for the day. The team had to consist of one provincial player and two non-provincial players.

Funds raised during the day will be divided between the Lowveld provincial players who will represent Mpumalanga. The open A-side bowlers will play in Oudtshoorn and George. Open B-side will play in Gauteng. Seniors will play in Durban.

The format was two-ball trips and the scoring of the game was a bit different to normal bowls. Bowlers played four games of 12 ends. Some players found their line and had the right weight, while others struggled a bit, although the greens were running smoothly.

Marlet Ireland, Pat Jones and Dave Jones were the winners of the day. Second place was taken by Hardus Korff, Denis Paiva and Dean Paiva. Gillian Beattie and Brian and Marlin Coulson ended third.

A raffle of R1 000 cash was won by Lynette Erasmus.
