Kruger dogs get more support from Germany

Claudia and Ingo Hinz, Petra Prossinger, Grant Coleman and Volkmar Seifert at the K9 Unit in KNP.

Three visitors from Altona in Germany donated bags of dog food to the K9 Unit in the Kruger National Park (KNP) on Sunday October 28.

This was their second visit to the park in six weeks.

They were accompanied by Volkmar Seifert, chairman of the Southern African Wildlife Conservation Fund (SAWCoF) and honorary ranger Grant Coleman.

The visitors were so impressed with the excellent work done by the unit and its dogs that they decided to start a collection of funds in Germany to support the unit with food on an ongoing basis.

Claudia was the prize winner of a competition previously held at the Wuppertal Zoo and visited the KNP in September as part of her prize.

She and Petra Prossinger, then also accompanied by Volkmar, spent a week at Mopani and Skuzuza camps and were taken on several informative visits to the airport, the Mission Area Joint Operation Centre and the K9 Unit.
